first of all - being born british is to win the lottery of life. britain has given so much to the world.the bbc sets the standard and always has done for television, william caxton (the first to translate books into english),faraday (electrical generator/motor),watt and trevithick(steam engines)telford (roads),isambard kingdom brunel(needs no intro),bell(telephone,telegraphy)- the list is endless! imperialism has been normality in years gone by and britain shouldnot feel guilty in having a successful imperial past just because others have failed. no country is now under british imperial rule that wishes to be a soveriegn republic. as for the comment about not being proud to be white, then a think it is sad when british citizens show a reluctance to show pride in their culture as long as you don't impede upon others. socialism is a spent political force and although the ideology remains it would be naive to think that it will ever become a significant doctrine in britain with the cenralisation of politics. i have enjoyed reading matt's contadictory comments and however much he may try to deny it his sychophantic reaction has highlighted his socialist beliefs.the disintegration ot the union would have an adverse effect on the the political and economic stabilty of the component countries. i do agree with your point to a certain extent on the failure to recognise england as a nation and the fact that we haven't been given are own parliament when scotland and wales have recieved devolved parliaments( northern ireland is an exceptional circumstance).i think that in order for britain or any country for that matter to operate sufficiently there needs to be a political convention based n practicality which in my opinion is conservative right wing moderate nationalism. on immigration i have to take a negative stance and agree with the points made by enoch powell and i think that if the government during that period had the benefit of hindsight they would have agreed aswell. and before anyone stands on a soap box with and spouts politically correct propaganda enoch powell was not a racist but just had a certain view of society. 'the main function of statesmanship is to provide a safe guard against preventable evils'. i do agree with category c's perceptions although i think the choice of words was suspect.

If you read my latest post in the Herberts V Me topic I have set out how I feel about national pride. It's obvious that we won't agree, but is it really necessary to take such an aggressive tone? I'm just a person with feelings like any other. I'm only talking you know.

i was just wondering on your opinions on immigration? the decision of some immigrants to demand dual nationality? the growing asylum crisis? and the worrying trend of political correctness. and no i do not harbor racist or racialist ideals but am concerned about the effect on britain and was unsure on your opinion. please enlighten me.

Id just like to pull you up on your comment about the BBC setting the standard for television...ARSE!! That is what they smugly like telling you in their promotional skits in between programmes...which are funded by everyone here.
Its disgusting that we dont have the option to cancel our subscriptions to the BBC,but its law that every houshold in the country has to pay for them.
Setting the standard...then tell me why all of their most successful comedy talents of the past few years were ALL poached from channel 4?
They copy ideas after realising they have dropped the ball...c4 gives us big brother..they counter with some shit that isnt even half as compelling..ITV gives us who wants to be a millionaire...they counter with the weakest link..its pathetic...
They dont proportionately cater for their clientelle at all..I sent a complaint in last night about this...Wrestling is huge in this country...yet they have not secured any programming,and they could fund a uk based promotion for less than it costs for lavish sets on bullshit like noels house party.They are the richest tv company in the uk by far...so the bullshit they spin about being outbid for things is a farce..

And as for asylum seekers taking all our NHS money or whatever, maybe you should look at the head of our fantastic monarchys bank balance and realise where the tax payers money is really going, rather than moaning about 50 quid a week to a couple of thousand asylum seekers.
